"The Goal of Yoga" (No, it's not handstand)
The yoga pose is not the goal. Becoming flexible or standing on your hands is not the goal. The goal is to create space where you were once stuck. To unveil layers of protection you've built around your heart. To appreciate your body and become aware of the mind and the noise it creates. To make peace with who you are. The goal is to love,... well, you. Shift your focus and your heart will grow.

Hi there! My name is Colleen, and I'm a wife and a homeschool mother of 5. I came to yoga for the mental health benefits first and physical benefits second. I really began my yoga practice when Sukha Inspired Yoga opened it's doors. I battle C-PTSD along with anxiety and depression and I've noticed a big improvement in my life as a whole since beginning my yoga journey. I felt pretty out of shape when I started and mentally, I was in a rough place! Sukha Inspired Yoga teachers have all been extremely welcoming, empowering, compassionate, encouraging, and non-judgmental. They have created a beautiful, safe space to practice and it has become like a second home. Since practicing 3-4 times a week for the last 5 months, I have already found several poses I used to think were impossible, and now I can get into those shapes and even hold some for a short time. The growth I've seen in this short period, is way more than I ever imagined or have ever experienced. I love how yoga has become a more regular part of my life and it really is like medicine, helping me cope with the hardest and best parts of life by finding peace and balance within myself.
One of my favorite parts of yoga is the breathwork. Breathing is so simple and basic that we take it for granted. Teachers are amazing at cueing breath throughout the practice, and even reminding to breathe during difficult parts of a flow. This has really helped me learn to breathe throughout my every day life, breathing through the tough moments and everything in between. It's amazing how much we hold our breath and don't think about it! I know my yoga practice has helped me become more aware of my breath, which has ultimately helped me feel more peace, calm, and in control.
I really cannot say enough good things about Sukha Inspired Yoga Studio! If there are any of you reading this, thinking about trying yoga for the first time, or maybe you tried before and got discouraged, I really hope that you find it in you to come and try it again, here, at Sukha! Be patient with yourself if you're just starting and know that it might look different for you and the next person, but there is so much good to get from any of the classes and practices. I am very excited to continue on this yoga journey with Sukha Inspired Yoga and all that attend with me. It's a beautiful place to grow in our community.
