What advice would you give someone who is new to yoga or considering starting a practice?

I would tell anyone who is considering yoga to just do it!  There are really only things to be gained and nothing to be lost from sitting on a yoga mat.  The people who you meet in class and all of the instructors are there for the same peaceful purpose.  Good vibes all around!

In what ways do you see yoga continuing to play a role in your future?

I can see myself practicing yoga in some capacity for the rest of my life.  Angela, Amber and Ashley have given me such a good foundation and motivation. I am definitely inspired to keep going! God willing I have many years left to live and I want this body to be able to move as comfortably as possible through those days.

How has yoga impacted your life on and off the mat?

Being over 50 I began to notice so much stiffness. I am an RN that gave up a bedside position and took a desk job about 9 years ago.  Boy does my body feel that difference! I would literally limp in the mornings when I got out of bed and would loosen up after a shower and over the course of the day.  Since regularly coming to yoga I don't have that problem anymore.  I am more flexible and have better range of motion which I think is going to continue to serve me well as I get older.

Are there any specific yoga poses or practices that have been particularly transformative for you?

In times of stress and frustration I find myself slipping into 3 part breathing to calm myself.  It works like a charm every time!

What initially drew you to yoga and how has your practice evolved since then?

I was initially drawn to yoga about 15 years ago as a way to destress and quiet my mind.  I was given a yoga DVD as a free gift and I would do it daily before work.  Over time I got out of the habit.  2 years ago I moved to Englewood and was looking for local activities and ran across Sukha Yoga.  What a blessing it has been to have such a nourishing place so close to my home.  Now that my daughter is grown I want to focus on self care.  I promised myself that I would go to class at least 2 days a week and so far I have kept my promise.
